CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

We are pleased to announce that Blue Cross/Blue Shield has a nationwide program managed and coordinated by the Blue Cross / Blue Shield Association (Blue Quality Centers for Transplant) that offers access to “Centers of Excellence” institutions.

A Center of Excellence is a nationally recognized medical institution known for quality transplant care and experience in performing certain types of high-technology transplant procedures.

In Florida, Blue Cross / Blue Shield is currently developing a network of “Centers of Excellence” facilities which provide services in the transplant area. The contracts are not finalized; however, such centers as Tampa General, Moffit, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Shands may be participating. These facilities may vary in the types of transplant services they provide based on their expertise.

Blue Cross is also looking to expand this project to encompass additional facilities serving members in medical services other than just transplants. Transplant is the first area in which Blue Cross has initiated contracting in the development of a network of providers to serve as Centers of Excellence.

Once the details are finalized, we will provide you with further information. In the meantime, if you, or a covered dependent is referred for an organ transplant, please contact Arlene Meyer, Benefits Coordinator, at 561-775-9574 and we will place you in contact with a Blue Cross transplant coordinator regarding your specific situation.
