Dear Sisters and Brothers in
Christ,
Today is Respect Life
Sunday, a day on which we renew our efforts to promote respect for
the gift of life from the moment of conception until natural death.
The theme chosen by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
to begin this year’s respect life program is Created, Loved and
Redeemed by God. In God’s plan every single life is a priceless gift
which He has given to us as a participation in His own life.
This year we are honored in
our Diocese to host the Respect Life Conference sponsored by the
Florida Catholic Conference during the weekend of October 13-15. May
we support the conference and continue to strengthen our efforts to
do all we can through prayer and action to stand for life by living
the gift of life as God has given it to us. Over the summer our Holy
Father, Pope Benedict XVI, reminded us that our defense of life is
best achieved through a positive approach which stresses respect for
life at every stage.
As a diocesan family here in
southern Florida, let us live and encourage all to live as created,
loved and redeemed by God who has given us the priceless gift of
life.
With every prayerful wish, I
am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerald M.
