Counseling Programs

Therapy for adults, children, families, couples and groups is provided in 5 locations. The therapy deals with problems such as depression, loneliness, grief and loss, anxiety, stressful relationships, child and adolescent problems and other life stressors.

Fees are offered on a sliding scale. Spanish-speaking counselors are available at some locations.

Generally, clients are served in the county where they live. Counseling services are NOT provided to those who are actively abusing drugs or alcohol or who are physically abusive. Persons that the agency cannot serve will be referred to a more appropriate resource.

Specialized Counseling Programs:

 

Maurawood Community Outreach

Maurawood Community Outreach provides supportive services for single moms and their children in Palm Beach county. Individual and family counseling, provided by licensed clinicians, are offered free of charge to empower single moms who are struggling with poverty to become emotionally healthy and to provide a stable and nurturing home for their children.

In addition, the Maurawood Work Preparedness Program offers supportive services, to include in-home counseling and case management, for single moms who are transitioning from welfare to work. Counseling encourages decision making skills, communication skills, assertiveness and additional life skills. Also, Maurawood offers support group meetings to provide a family social activity as well as a variety of speakers to present on topics most important to the single working mom. The goal is to provide the single, working mother with a support network to empower her to achieve her goals as well as the goals for her family.

Intensive Marriage Counseling

This program provides a team approach to working with couples who are in crisis. The couples may be in jeopardy of separating or divorcing. The clinical team provides an intensive 3-hour session to try to save the relationship.

A children's therapist provides counseling to children and their families in the St. Lucie County area.

Cooperative Parenting & Divorce

This is a group workshop and educational program designed to help divorced or divorcing parents learn how to minimize their own conflict and build the skills needed to support their children's emotional well being. Each workshop includes 6 weekly sessions. One or both parents may attend the same workshop. Grandparents, step-parents, and other involved caregivers may also attend.

Birthline/Lifeline

Birthline/Lifeline offers compassionate help to women who find themselves in a crisis pregnancy by providing them alternatives to abortion. We offer free pregnancy testing, with referrals to the Health Department for Medicaid clearance. The program provides clothing (maternity, baby through toddler), infant car seats, strollers, formula, cribs, etc. at no charge.

Referrals are given for pre-natal care, housing, emergency assistance, adoption, post-abortion counseling and other assistance.

Emergency Information

In case of an emergency when offices are closed, clients should call the Mobile Crisis Team; Northern Palm Beach county number (877) 435-4740 or Southern Palm Beach County number (877) 858-7474. Clients can also call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For those persons who need someone to talk to or for referrals to community resources, call 211.

Other community agencies that provide counseling on a sliding scale are:

  • Center for Family Services in West Palm Beach or Boca (centralized intake number (800) 404-7960.)

  • Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service in Boca (561) 852-3333

  • Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Services in West Palm Beach (561) 684-1991
