Interfaith Health & Wellness

Interfaith Health & Wellness Association (IHWA) is committed to the support and education of registered nurses who serve their congregations and communities by promoting care of the body, mind, and spirit for healing and wellness. A parish nurse or faith community nurse serves as health educator, health counselor, resource for church and community services, advocate for those in need, and facilitator of health ministries.

The Faith Community Nurse Basic Preparation Curriculum, a comprehensive course of study approved for 40 CEUs and geared to experienced registered nurses, is offered in partnership with Florida Atlantic University, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and recognized by  the International Parish Nurse Resource Center.

IHWA Services

  • Assessment for initiating or continuing a faith-based nursing practice or health ministry team

  • Resource center and materials for faith leaders and nurses desiring assistance in establishing/maintaining a nursing practice within their congregations

  • Educational programs for nurses including Basic Preparation Curriculum for Faith Community Nursing

  • Networking meetings for nurses that provide:

    • Sharing of information

    • Best practices

    • Support forums for discussion of professional issues

  • Communication materials offering information about:

    • Scope and Standards of Parish Nursing Practice

    • Meetings, retreats, & opportunities

    • Educational workshops, seminars, etc.

  • Community relations programs that assist in building awareness and understanding of faith-based nursing practice

  • Support in financial development efforts

  • Recruitment assistance for both nurses and volunteers
