Students from New Jersey, Florida, Indiana winners in Catholic
Communication Campaign Good News art contest
Students in New Jersey, Florida, and Indiana took top prizes in the
Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) Good News art contest.
The
first place winner, receiving a $250 cash prize, is Amber Romero,
age 12, of Perth Amboy Catholic, Perth Amboy, New Jersey, of the
Diocese of Metuchen. The second place winner, receiving $150, is
Nina Doyle, age 12, of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Boca Raton, Florida,
in the Diocese of Palm Beach. The third place winner, receiving
$100, is Kaylee Slafkosky, age 12, of St. Mary’s School, Crown
Point, Indiana, in the Diocese of Gary. Eighteen students received
honorable mention certificates, including six students from the
Metuchen Diocese, three from the Diocese of Rockville Center, New
York, and two from the Archdiocese of Miami.
The CCC asked children in grades one through six to select a medium
and draw how Jesus would personally deliver the Good News.
Amber Romero depicted a young girl listening to Jesus on an iPod
saying, “Good News…. I love you with all my heart and you should
love everyone the same way.” Nina Doyle presented Jesus in a pop-up
ad on the computer: “This is NOT a virus! To hear the good news of
Jesus click the `Next’ button.” Kaylee Slafkosky drew a young person
at the computer reading a message from Jesus that was being sent to
many lands. The children’s artwork showed Jesus delivering his
message via blimps, planes, fancy cars and boats. They portrayed him
preaching at Mass, at a rock concert, and simply knocking on the
door.
“Media plays an integral part in our children’s lives, and they see
Jesus as part of that experience,” said Ramón Rodriguez, CCC
director of development. “The children’s art clearly conveys Jesus’
message that He loves each and every one of them.”
