Bishop Barbarito Calls for Prayers to Avert Hurricanes
As the
2007 hurricane season rapidly approaches, Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito
today announced a united prayer initiative in thanksgiving for a
calm 2006 hurricane season while calling for continued prayers for
protection from devastating storms in 2007.
"We
were blessed last year with calm seas and quiet tropics. With the
drought we are currently experiencing, it is hard to imagine the
rainy season can bring anything but relief. But we are all painfully
aware of what the hurricane season can do to the quality of life we
know and love here in south Florida," said Bishop Barbarito.
All
pastors and school administrators have been asked to join Bishop
Barbarito in this united prayer effort on the part of all Diocesan
parishes and schools, and it has been requested that this prayer
effort takes on three forms: prayers of the faithful (which are
prayed during the Mass), a short prayer for private and communal
parish use, and weekly reminders in the parish bulletin with a
prayer families can pray at home.
Prayer for Protection from Storms
God
our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we
humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your
loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all
hurricanes which may threaten us in coming seasons. Protect us from
fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent hope and trust in
Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea,
the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm and safety.
Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask
this through Christ your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen. Mary, Queen of the
Apostles, and Patroness of our Diocese, pray for us.
