Lenten Fish Dinners - Third Friday of Lent

Dispensation from Lenten Obligation on March 17th

Bishop Barbarito has granted a general dispensation from the Lenten obligation of abstinence from meat on Friday, March 17th, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. This dispensation does not detract from the serious obligation of abstinence on the other Fridays of Lent and this particular exception should deepen our appreciation of this penitential practice.

Bishop Barbarito wishes all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day as we celebrate the richness which the Irish heritage has brought to Catholicism.

During the Lenten Season when we as Catholics abstain from meat on Fridays, many of our parishes will hold Fish Dinners on Friday nights to offer a meal and fellowship to our faith community. This calendar page lists some of the opportunities submitted to the diocesan Events Calendar by our parishes. Please carefully read each entry as some parishes may not hold a dinner on each Friday.

We suggest contacting a parish directly for further information on these events or to find out if a parish has a Friday Night Lenten Dinner that may not be listed here. Please utilize our online Parish Directory to find the location, address and  contact information for our parishes.
