Diocese to Hold Special Mass to Remember Bishop Thomas V. Daily

The Diocese of Palm Beach will have a Month's MInd Memorial Mass on June 19,2017, for Bishop Thomas V. Daily, Bishop Emeritus of Brooklyn, and who served as the first Bishop of Palm Beach. Bishop Daily died on May 15, 2017. The Mass will begin at noon (12:00 p.m.) and will be held at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens with Bishop Barbarito as the Main Celebrant. Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito invites the faith family of the Diocese of Palm Beach to this special Mass to remember Bishop Daily.

In 1984, Bishop Daily was named the founding bishop of the newly created Diocese of Palm Beach. He helped to build our Diocese, and was a leader in establishing the practice of pro-life prayer vigils near local abortion clinics. Bishop Daily served here until early 1990 when he was transferred to Bishop of Brooklyn, NY. He remained there until his retirement in 2003.

It was Bishop Daily who ordained Bishop Barbarito as a bishop. While serving in the Diocese of Brooklyn, Bishop Barbarito served as Bishop Daily's Vice Chancellor, Episcopal Secretary and Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn.
