Catholic Charities Raises Over $360,000 to Benefit Programs and Ministries

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach is pleased to announce the success of its 2nd Annual Caritas Dei Bishop’s Gala, a fundraising event that benefitted Catholic Charities’ 14 programs and ministries. More than 250 people attended the event held this month at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach provides quality programs that help the poor and most vulnerable regardless of religious affiliation. The Caritas Dei Bishop’s Gala is a caring way to support this work and to offer hope to children and struggling families or a senior with no one else to turn to. Each person who seeks help through Catholic Charities is shown love.

Last year, Catholic Charities assisted more than 9,000 unduplicated clients through it’s’ programs and ministries throughout 17 locations in the Diocese of Palm Beach.

The evening included a silent auction of more than  230 items including: 10 pieces of art donated by Major Sponsor, Wally Findlay Galleries; Collection Handbags from Daniella Ortiz and the Michael Kors Worth Avenue Boutique; a Tour of the Florida Capital sponsored by Senator Maria Sachs; beautiful orchids; and a BMW mountain bike.  A Live Auction was also conducted during dinner by Neil Saffer, Professional Auctioneer. Saffer ended the auction with a heartfelt plea to raise money for Catholic Charities’ newest program, Hunger, Homeless and Outreach. Generous donor bids raised more than  $57,000 for the program’s backpack initiative which will fill children’s backpacks on Fridays with food to supplement their families meals over the weekend.  The children will return the empty backpack the following week and it will be refilled every Friday.

Caritas Dei Gala guests filled the dance floor throughout the night dancing to the musical entertainment provided by The Fusion Machine Swing Band. Al Martin joined the band for part of the evening and entertained the guests with musical selections from the Great American Songbook.

Serving as the Caritas Dei Gala Chairmen were Marietta and Dale McNulty of West Palm Beach and Kim and Ray Celedinas of Palm Beach. Juan Carlos Fanjul, anchor/reporter for CBS12 News, served as the Master of Ceremony.

The event was attended by Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, Bishop of Palm Beach; James Borynack, 2013 Major Sponsor; Helen and Dan Brede; Trudy Brekus; Lurana Campanaro and Dr. Jose Figueroa; Mercedes Cassidy; Ray and Kim Celedinas; Lucille and William De Vane; Cathie and Andres Fanjul; Anita and James Gabler; Carol and Robert Garvy; Joanne and Dennis Hamel; John Herrick; Silvio Hidalgo; Mary and Joseph Ierardi; Joanne and Lowell Jaeger; Pat and Howard Lester; Eileen and Tim Lewis; Jennifer and Rocco Marcello; Suzanne and Frank Maurno; Marietta and Dale McNulty; Sally Ohrstrom; Victoria and Eugene Pollingue; Mary Lynn and Pell Rogers; Senator Maria Sachs and Peter Sachs; Lesly Smith and Dr. James Walsh; Mary and Dan Stanton; and Sieglinde Wikstrom.
