National Vocations Awareness Week

National Vocation Awareness Week (NVAW), celebrated this year on November 1-7, 2020, is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.  NVAW began in 1976 when the U.S bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW.  In 1997, this celebration was moved to coincide with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which fell on January 13 in 2013.  Beginning in 2014, NVAW was moved to the first full week of November.

Our vocations director, Reverend Daniel Daza-Jaller, began on November 1, at 7:00 p.m. in offering a Holy Hour for Vocations on the first day of National Vocation Awareness Week, at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola or on Facebook

Events on Nov. 2 through Nov. 7 were also live-streamed on Facebook starting at 7:00 p.m.  For a list of those events, click here to download:  2020 NVAW Calendar of Events

In this episode of "What's Your Vocation?!" we looked at the vocation which "births" all other vocations: marriage. Did you know marriage was a sacred vocation?! That is, it is an instrument which God uses to bring about the sanctification of those called to it, and to bring about His salvation into the world. Join us and listen to a few couples living out this beautiful vocation.

November 7, 2020
In this final episode of "What's Your Vocation?!" we looked at what are perhaps the most misundertood and unknown vocations in the life of the Church: consecrated celibacy. This vocation is made manifest in many ways in the life of the Church. We explored three particular forms: religious brothers (the male counterpart to religious sisters), celibate deacons, and consecrated virgins.
