Director of Guidance and College Counseling - Cardinal Newman High School
The Director of Guidance and College Counseling is directly responsible to the Principal for the following:
General Administrative Duties:
Plans, organizes, and supervises the school counseling (guidance) program:
- Establishes and reviews annually the major objectives of the school counseling program.
- Coordinates staff meetings, as needed, to keep school counselors up to date on needed information and to review ongoing services to students.
- Prepares written evaluation of each school counselor and learning support specialist for the administration.
Monitors frequency of services provided to individual students, with specific attention given to students with academic struggles.
Assists the Academic Dean in the scheduling of students, review of transfer students, and other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Serves as the Director of College Counseling
Plans and supervises the school testing program: PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, AP Placement Examinations
Shares results of testing with appropriate constituents: administration, faculty (when appropriate), parents, and students.
Guidance and Counseling:
Is responsible for students on caseload: academic, personal, and career guidance.
Is available to assist other school counselors with individual cases when needed.
Works with School Counselors and LSS to ensure the proper storage of student records and their confidentiality.
Coordinates with the Academic Dean the selection of graduation awards and special awards for outstanding students.
Cooperates with the Director of Admissions in recruitment.
Maintains relationships with resources and specialists in the community who are adjunct to school counseling: psychologists, testing services, area counseling services, etc.
Coordinates the planning of regular programming for parents to provide information on a variety of guidance related topics
Membership and Professional Development:
Keeps current with trends in the school counseling field. Attends workshops and represents the school at professional meetings of school counselors.
Participates in curriculum study groups and serves on Academic Council.
Serves on the Academic Council with the Department Chairs and Administration.
Maintains membership in professional associations.
Coordinates the Advanced Placement Program
Coordinates the Annual College Fair in October
Coordinates the Pathfinder Awards Nomination and Application process
