Director of Information Technology - Pastoral Center


Diocese of Palm Beach Pastoral Center is currently searching for a Director of Information Technology.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall management of technology-related functions within the Diocese of Palm Beach and Catholic Charities (infrastructure, security, telecommunications, data communications, disaster
  • recovery, workstation and server admin/support, applications, software development,
  • and all business unit and/or product related assignments)
  • Coordinate support for Blackbaud Raisers Edge database environment including reporting, data import/export, upgrades and server environment
  • Coordinate support for Accounting software hosting environment including Remote Desktop, Sage 50 and server environment utilized by parish and school entity bookkeepers
  • Coordinate support for Safe Environments including fingerprinting, results reporting, database, server environment and web site development utilizing Visual Studio
  • Develop, coordinate and support procedures to ensure data security, virus protection and reliable data backup
  • Develop, coordinate and support disaster recovery plan and procedures related to IT; including preparing Pastoral Center computers and equipment in case of emergency (i.e. hurricane)
  • Responsible for the oversight of the creation, updating, and maintaining network and IT systems policies, procedures, and related documentation as needed
  • Coordinate support for TCP/IP based network including support for routers, switches, gateways, firewall, and Windows servers.
  • Primary responsibility for application development utilizing Microsoft Access and SQL Server to support all custom developed applications
  • Primary responsibility for department budget creation, maintenance, and reconciliation
  • Primary responsibility for department personnel management; division of labor and integration between support specialist and technician; recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of employees
  • Review and obtain approval for major contracts for computing and information technology services and equipment
  • Top-level problem-solving responsibilities independent of and dependent on inter-department influences
  • Identify emerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the Diocese of Palm Beach and Catholic Charities
  • Management and oversight of all outsourced vendors in relationship to infrastructure, application development, and technology development



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years progressive growth experience in IT management or IT consulting
  • Success oriented self-starter who has excellent analytical, communication, supervisory and problem solving skills.
  • Should have background in infrastructure, networks/servers, software support and desktop support. 
  • Experience in software design guidance including architecture, performance considerations, usability considerations, and maintenance considerations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server database and Microsoft Access
  • Able to work under pressure with ambiguous or competing priorities
  • Ability to effectively drive projects with aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to coach and motivate technical employees with varied styles, backgrounds, and experiences
  • Ability to build effective development teams for software projects
  • Adhere to the Diocese of Palm Beach Code of Conduct with emphasis on confidentiality and the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Ability to work effectively with Catholic Charities and Diocesan employees, departments heads, and representatives of other agencies
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task as well as being self-motivated
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have excellent driving record
  • Knowledge and understanding of church organization and operational procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and make responsible judgment calls.
  • Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees, departments heads, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
  • Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity.
  • Ability to stay focused and organized.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and consistently exercise discretion and good business judgment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
  • Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
  • Frequent extended periods of sitting
  • Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
  • Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
  • Occasional time spent working closely with others
