Music Director - St. Clare Church

St. Clare Catholic Church, located in North Palm Beach, FL is searching for a part time Music Director (25 hours per week), with the possibility of 30 hours per week with benefits.

Position Summary:

  • The Director of Liturgical Music serves the parish as principal musician, organist, and choir director according to the highest professional standards established by this profession. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides service by playing for the regular parish liturgical celebrations including weddings and funerals. 

  • Trains, directs, and supervises choirs, instrumental ensembles, and cantor programs.
  • Prepares assembly for liturgies through rehearsals prior to liturgies, rehearsals with students in parish school, or religious education programs.

2. Provides liturgical updating and education of the parish. 

  • Communicates through parish bulletin or newsletter.
  • Actively participates in parish organizations including pastoral staff,
  • liturgy preparation groups, music support committee.

3. Maintains and develops personal and professional skills. 

  • Attends in-service training opportunities.
  • Sharpens skills through personal practice.

4. Develops budget for liturgical music. 

  • Preparation and administration of annual liturgical music budget, including purchase of music, payment of additional musical personnel, copyright fees, permissions, and programs.
  • Supervises and is accountable for expenditures.

5. Cooperates with the liturgical music projects of the diocese when feasible.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in the use of the organ, piano and voice as attested to by formal credentials or personal performance audition.
  • Must have skill as an effective choral conductor as demonstrated by formal credentials and/or a choral audition (rehearsal).
  • Must have a knowledge and appreciation of the Church’s liturgical tradition as well as current liturgical practice.
  • Must have the ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
  • Must have a good knowledge of quality repertoire available for liturgical music programs for adult and children’s choirs, organ, and congregation.
  • This position requires experience in parish liturgical music programs.
  • An undergraduate degree in music/liturgy or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds.
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, climbing, stretching and kneeling.
  • Frequent use of both hands and fingers
  • Occasional moments of minimal and routine hearing
