PE Teacher - St. Helen Catholic School

St. Helen Catholic School, located in Vero Beach, FL is searching for a full time PE Teacher.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the supervision of students with safety as the number one concern.
  • Keep work area neat; clean and orderly appearance of office and work space.
  • Plan grade appropriate lessons in accordance with state and district standards.
  • Always have a radio and cell phone in the event of an emergency.
  • Monitor inclement weather in the area for the safety of the students and staff.
  • Report any injuries, even minor, to the school office and parents.
  • Adhere to class schedule and school schedule.
  • Adhere to all guidelines in the faculty handbook regarding professional dress and person appearance and carry oneself in a professional manner always.
  • Respect our Catholic values and morals in and out of school and participate in all Religious activities (even if you are not Catholic) except sacraments while at work.
  • Know which students are identified as having learning disabilities or challenges and carryout accommodations as noted in their plan on file.
  • Know the dynamics of the students in terms of who gets along and does not, who should and should not be teamed up together, and who needs extra support when dealing with peers.
  • Assist with all duties in the morning or afternoon.
  • Reply to emails by following the rules laid out in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Attend professional development offered.
  • Fully participate in school events, the accreditation process and staff evaluations.
  • Report any safety concerns to administration and report DCF is the situation warrants.
  • Be kind to students and staff and expect the same from them. 

PE Field Responsibilities and Behaviors:

  • Unless there is a true emergency, cell phones need to be away during contracted hours.  Call phones should be on your person for calling 911.
  • When directing students, use a quiet and calm voice, positive praise, and redirection. 


  • Must have the following education, training, and experience
    • Minimum of A.A. degree
    • One year of experience working with children preferred
    • Positive references and recommendations
    • Clear criminal background check
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
  • Must have a basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy, goals, and objectives
  • Must have a basic understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to the students being serviced
  • Must be able to use the control and discipline techniques that are established for the classroom
  • Must work cooperatively with the assigned teacher and other staff
  • Must understand the basic use of an iPad
  • Excellent and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees, departments heads, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and make responsible judgment calls.
  •  Adhere to the Diocese of Palm Beach Code of Conduct with emphasis on confidentiality and able to exercise discretion and good business judgment

Physical Requirements:

  • Daily exposure to heat, sun, and outside weather conditions
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
  • Frequent use of both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
  • Frequent extended periods of standing
  • Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
  • Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
  • Occasional time spent working closely with others
