West Palm Beach _ The St. Ann Parish Youth Choir is spending December preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime. The children will sing for Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Basilica when the Pontiff celebrates the Epiphany Mass on January 6th in Rome.
With just a few short weeks left to prepare, the 28 children have two more performances at their Parish and will spend hours rehearsing in preparation for this extraordinary opportunity under the direction of their choir director Christopher Hogan.
The choir will leave for Rome on December 29th beginning the 10-day pilgrimage. This experience will include five performances at churches throughout Rome and in Assisi, culminating in the Epiphany Mass on January 6th.
“This is an amazing opportunity for our youth choir,” said St. Ann Pastor Nestor Rodriguez, who will also travel to Rome. “The children will have the opportunity to explore and grow in their faith while sharing their gift.”
Since March the choir has traveled to more than six parishes throughout the Diocese of Palm Beach singing at masses and providing special performances to raise the money necessary to make this trip possible. With support from other parishes and donors throughout Palm Beach County and beyond, the choir raised more than $125,000 to fully fund the children who are participating.
“I am so proud of how hard they have worked to make this possible,” Hogan said. “And we are so grateful to all those who recognized the beauty of their voices and generously supported this opportunity for them.”
Prior to departure, the children will sing at masses at St. Ann this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and on December 24th at 4:30 p.m. Multiple rehearsals are scheduled.
