 rita is a life-long Catholic\, steeped in her faith\, its rituals\, and pr
 actices\, and connected throughout her life to various church ministries a
 nd community service organizations. A Cuban native\, she came to the Unite
 d States when she was 10 years old and settled with her family in Ft. Pier
 ce where her father worked as the accountant for St. Anastasia parish and 
 associated schools. In 1968\, she played and sang at the first guitar mass
  the parish had back when it was still quite an innovation!\n \nMargarita 
 started her college career on a voice scholarship\, earned during her perf
 ormance of the role of “Maria” in the Sound of Music. Her academic degrees
  include a Master in Anthropology from Florida State University and a Mast
 er of Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Go
 vernment.  \n \nHer professional career has roots in the Florida Capitol a
 nd the U.S. Capitol\, having served as a Cabinet Aide to the Florida State
  Treasurer and as special assistant to then Senator Lawton Chiles\, respec
 tively. Prior to her retirement in 2020\, she led a strategic team for AT&
 T which serves the telecommunication needs of government and education in 
 South Florida. In between\, she was director of government relations for E
 ricsson-GE and the Republic Group of Virginia\, representing the Governmen
 t of Australia. When she moved from Washington to Florida\, she joined the
  faculty of St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary as an adjunct professor 
 where she taught for 20 years. \n \nCommitted to service\, Margarita is an
 d has been a board member of multiple community organizations\, including 
 the Lighthouse of Broward\; the FAU Broward President’s Community Council 
 and FAU Lifelong Learning Institute\, Ft. Lauderdale\; the Community Found
 ation of Broward\; the Broward Education Foundation\; and the Greater Ft. 
 Lauderdale Alliance\, among several others. She leads a parish ministry ca
 lled AIM which provides weekend-long spiritual retreats for individuals wi
 th physical disabilities and is a council member of a different parish ret
 reat ministry called Koinonia.  She has been a member of several church ch
 oirs\, sometimes as director and conductor.\n \nMargarita enjoys singing\,
  dancing\, traveling\, reading\, learning\, making art quilts\, mentoring 
 young students and has great respect and love for God’s creation\, the nat
 ural world\, the political process\, and community service.   \n\n\nTicket
