Speech & Debate Coach - Cardinal Newman High School
Cardinal Newman High School, located in West Palm Beach, FL is seeking a Speech & Debate Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. In addition to coaching speech and debate, there can be a full-time/part-time teaching position available if desired. Required qualities include intimate knowledge of National Speech & Debate Association events and the ability to take this program to a very competitive level. A willingness to travel is also a prerequisite

Responsibilities
Coach speech and debate after school on a regular basis
Take, supervise, and coach students at speech and debate competition
Judge and provide judges at local and national tournaments
Work with the Director of Student Affairs to ensure all school policies and procedures are followed

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required; master’s degree is preferred
Either extensive high speech & debate experience is required, or previous high school coaching experience is necessary
Strong interpersonal skills and great customer service skills that will create an exciting activities program and promote student leadership.
Ability to work effectively with students and faculty/staff
Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills
Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity
Strong ethical values
Physical and Work Requirements:
Position will require after school time and some evening/weekend hours
Occasional light lifting (under 15 pounds) and moderate carrying and lifting (15 – 44 pounds)
Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
Frequent extended periods of sitting
Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
Occasional time spent working closely with others
