Considering Magnifica Humanitas

Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez speaks to clergy of the Diocese of Palm Beach during the evening of study, prayer and reflection on Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV's new encyclical.

PALM BEACH GARDENS  |  Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez gathered June 19, 2026, with the priests and deacons of the diocese at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola for an evening of study, prayer and reflection on Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV’s new encyclical addressing the dignity of the human person in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

There were insightful presentations by Troy Stefano, professor of systematic and historical theology at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary, and Bishop Emeritus Gerald M. Barbarito that considered the opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies. The clergy reflected on how the Church is called to proclaim the Gospel, accompany souls and uphold the sacred dignity of every human person in our rapidly changing digital world.

A few of the participating clergy offered remarks. As they continue to study and pray with this important encyclical, Bishop Rodríguez asked the Holy Spirit to guide them in using technology wisely, always ensuring that it serves humanity, strengthens authentic relationships and draws people closer to Jesus Christ.
