STATEMENT REGARDING REV. ALEX J. VARGAS

Today the Diocese of Palm Beach has been informed of serious allegations involving Rev. Alex J. Vargas, Pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in Boynton Beach. A formal investigation has been initiated.
To ensure the safety of all concerned and the integrity of the investigative process, Father Vargas has been placed on administrative leave and his ministerial faculties have been removed, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Father Vargas is prohibited from exercising any ministry and from having contact with any Diocese of Palm Beach parishioners, employees, volunteers, ministries, and affiliated organizations, including those at St. Thomas More, except as authorized by the Diocese.
As recognized by both civil and canon law, Father Vargas enjoys the presumption of innocence and is not considered guilty at this time.
Effective immediately, Very Rev. Antony Pulikal has been appointed Parish Administrator of St. Thomas More Parish with full pastoral, administrative, and financial authority.
The Diocese has reported this matter to the appropriate civil authorities and remains fully committed to maintaining safe environments in all its parishes, schools, and ministries.

Hoy, la Diócesis de Palm Beach ha sido informada de graves acusaciones que involucran al Rev. Alex J. Vargas, párroco de la parroquia St. Thomas More en Boynton Beach. Se ha iniciado una investigación formal.
Para garantizar la seguridad de todas las personas involucradas y preservar la integridad del proceso investigativo, el Padre Vargas ha sido colocado en licencia administrativa y se le han retirado sus facultades ministeriales, con efecto inmediato, mientras se lleva a cabo la investigación.
El Padre Vargas tiene prohibido ejercer cualquier ministerio y mantener contacto con feligreses, empleados, voluntarios, ministerios y organizaciones afiliadas de la Diócesis de Palm Beach, incluyendo aquellos de la parroquia St. Thomas More, salvo autorización expresa de la diócesis.
Como lo reconocen tanto el derecho civil como el derecho canónico, el Padre Vargas goza de la presunción de inocencia y no se le considera culpable en este momento.
Con efecto inmediato, el Muy Reverendo Antony Pulikal ha sido nombrado Administrador Parroquial de la parroquia St. Thomas More, con plena autoridad pastoral, administrativa y financiera.
La diócesis ha informado este asunto a las autoridades civiles competentes y permanece plenamente comprometida con el mantenimiento de ambientes seguros en todas sus parroquias, escuelas y ministerios.
