STUART | In June, nearly 3,000 faithful from across the four deaneries of the Diocese of Palm Beach gathered at a series of special liturgical celebrations to enthrone and consecrate their families to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The events were in response to the invitation of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops during the nation’s 250th anniversary commemorations.
Organized by the diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry, the initiative brought together Hispanic Catholic communities from the diocese’s five counties in a shared act of faith, entrusting their homes, marriages, children and communities to the loving heart of Christ.
The celebrations took place June 6 at St. Bernadette in Port St. Lucie (Northern Deanery), June 13 at St. Joan of Arc in Boca Raton (Southern), June 20 at St. Juliana in West Palm Beach (Central) and June 27 at St. Joseph in Stuart (Cathedral).
More than 800 families participated in the first celebration, with parishioners from St. Helen, St. Mark the Evangelist, St. Lucie, Holy Family and the San Juan Diego Pastoral Center gathered for Mass. St. Bernadette’s administrator, Father Antony Lopez, welcomed the faithful and clergy, including Father Duván Bermúdez, director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry, who presided over each of the celebrations.
During his homilies, Father Bermúdez reflected on the profound love flowing from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, inviting families to deepen their relationship with Christ and make his heart the center of their homes.
“The love comes from God,” he reminded the faithful, encouraging them to allow devotion to the Sacred Heart to strengthen their faith, renew their commitment to the Church and inspire them to serve those most in need. Drawing upon the teachings of Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV, he emphasized that authentic Christian love begins in the heart of Christ and is expressed through charity, mercy and missionary discipleship.
The Southern Deanery celebration welcomed about 400 families from St. Joan of Arc, St. Jude and Our Lady Queen of Peace. The Central Deanery celebration at St. Juliana brought together approximately 800 faithful, while the concluding celebration in Stuart welcomed nearly 600 participants from Holy Cross, St. Peter, the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola and St. Joseph.
At each Mass, one family represented all those gathered by leading the prayers of the faithful and the Act of Consecration, symbolically placing every Catholic family in the diocese under the protection of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Parish choirs, clergy, deacons, community leaders and numerous volunteers helped create prayerful celebrations marked by deep reverence and joyful participation.
The initiative also coincided with two significant moments in the life of the U.S. Church. As the nation marked the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops renewed the country’s consecration to the Sacred Heart during their plenary assembly in Orlando June 11, inviting dioceses throughout the country to encourage families to enthrone the Sacred Heart in their homes and renew their commitment to living the Gospel.
By the conclusion of the four diocesan celebrations, thousands of Catholics had participated in this month-long spiritual pilgrimage across the diocese. The initiative was a visible witness of unity among Hispanic Catholic communities and a renewed commitment to making Christ the center of family life.
The Office of Hispanic Ministry expressed gratitude to the pastors, clergy, deacons, parish staffs and liaisons, musicians, volunteers and families whose generous participation made the initiative possible. Families returned home carrying not only an image of the Sacred Heart for enthronement but also a renewed desire to live the Gospel with greater faith, hope and love. Together, they proclaimed the prayer that echoed throughout every celebration: “Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, en Ti confiamos” (Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in you).
