Little library one of many outreaches of Christ Child Society

BOCA RATON  |  The Christ Child Society of Boca Raton has established its first Little Library outside Place of Hope in Boca Raton. Members maintain the library and continuously add books. Encouraging literacy is one of the core objectives of Christ Child, and the Little Library is the most recent addition to its ongoing programs.

The Catholic organization held its Easter basket get-together April 9 to add to the joy of the Easter season for children. In this annual event that has been going on for more than 30 years, members donate items and prepare 60 Easter baskets with stuffed animals, books, toys and candy. They are distributed to children who attend programs at the Boynton Beach Soup Kitchen just before the holiday weekend.

During the year, the Christ Child Society collects diapers, baby clothes and related items that are bagged and sent to programs that work with health educators and maternal child health nurses through the Palm Beach County Health Department. The organization includes board books in every layette it distributes.

Besides the layettes, the Christ Child Society donates backpacks with school supplies. They also support literacy in a local Title I elementary school by providing a classroom with a series of books throughout the year that the students take home for their home library.
