PALM BEACH GARDENS  |  Under the banner of “Live the Light of Christ,” the 2025-26 Lumen Christi Schools Appeal has begun in support of the Diocese of Palm Beach’s 18 Catholic elementary and secondary schools. All net proceeds from the appeal are allocated to support schools in the ever-expanding educational system, with more than 7,200 students and 600 teachers and staff.

To add context on a national scale, Steven Cheeseman, president/CEO of the National Catholic Educational Association, wrote about his March 13, 2025, tour of schools in the diocese for his “Bright Lights of Catholic Education” series. In his reflection, Cheeseman said the diocese “is home to schools where faith and learning come alive.”

“The Diocese of Palm Beach is a vibrant example of everything that makes Catholic education a ‘bright light,’” he said. “From the passionate educators to the joyful students and dedicated families, it’s clear that these communities are not just teaching subjects. They are forming hearts, minds and souls for a lifetime of faith and service. What a gift to have witnessed it all firsthand.”

In his letter promoting this year’s Lumen Christi Schools Appeal, Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito said, “The theme reminds us of the Latin words ‘Lumen Christi,’ which means Light of Christ, and how we are inspired to manifest Christ’s goodness through wholesome, effective and holy actions,” adding, “Please join us in supporting this effort as we continue our commitment to foster Catholic education through the Lumen Christi Schools Appeal.”
