Applications for Golden Rose awards due Sept. 30

The Palm Beach Diocesan Council of Catholic Women is seeking to honor outstanding young women in the Diocese of Palm Beach with Golden Rose Awards. The deadline to apply is Saturday, Sept. 30, with an awards luncheon set for Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Family Life Center of the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola.

Pastors, youth ministers and directors of religious education are encouraged to nominate girls for the award. Nominees must be high school students who show leadership abilities, display spirituality, are involved in a service project and are practicing Catholics who regularly attend Sunday Mass.

The young women will receive the Golden Rose Award and an individual membership in the National Council of Catholic Women. One girl will be chosen by a DCCW committee to represent the diocese on the national level.

“There are many programs out there that promote academic or athletic abilities, but almost none that celebrate leadership, service and spirituality,” wrote Dorothy Harper, PBDCCW president, in a letter to pastors. “Our goal is to recognize and promote the value of young women ‘making a difference’ in today’s world, one good deed at a time.”
