U.S. Bishops Endorse Legislation Protecting Children Online

The USCCB has endorsed the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) (S 1748). In a letter from Bishop William D. Byrne, chairman of USCCB’s Committee on Communications and Bishop Robert Barron, chairman of the USCCB's Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, they empathize the need for meaningful legislation to protect children online:

"The protection of children is not only a moral imperative. It is also an indication of cultural and societal priorities...

"Today’s online platforms often expose children to content and interactions that threaten their mental, emotional, and even physical well-being ... As Catholics, we believe in the respect for human life and dignity, and that each child is a person created in the image and likeness of God, deserving of love, protection, and the freedom to grow in a healthy and secure environment."
