Cuban archbishop visits diocese

Archbishop Dionisio Garcia of Santiago de Cuba celebrates Mass June 7, 2026 at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola.

WEST PALM BEACH |  The Diocese of Palm Beach welcomed Archbishop Dionisio Garcia of Santiago de Cuba who celebrated Masses at St. Juliana in West Palm Beach June 5, 2026, and at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola June 7, at the invitation of Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez.

At St. Juliana, Archbishop Garcia was accompanied by Father Ducasse François, pastor, along with Father Maximinio Matos, parochial vicar, while at the cathedral he was joined by Bishop Rodríguez, Bishop Emeritus Gerald M. Barbarito, Father Duván Bermúdez and Father Brian King. 

During his visit, the archbishop met with Ellen Wayne, executive director of Catholic Charities to get the latest details on the Helping Hands for Cuba humanitarian campaign, which concluded June 7. He publicly expressed his deep gratitude for the generosity of so many people who responded with love and solidarity to help the Cuban people in their time of need.
