PALM BEACH GARDENS | At Masses in the Diocese of Palm Beach Nov. 14-15, those who have been fingerprinted and completed abuse prevention training will be recognized as part of Stand Up Sunday, a campaign of awareness in solidarity with the United Nations World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence on Nov. 18.
Stand Up Sunday was created to recognize and affirm the Church’s efforts in safeguarding by recognizing those who have been background checked and completed abuse prevention curriculum. It was started in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, spread to other dioceses in California and was promoted to all dioceses by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops last fall.
Resources sent to parishes for Stand Up Sunday include suggested announcements and prayers at the end of Mass, with the presider asking parishioners who have gone through a background check and training to stand and receive a blessing.
Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez has recorded a video to be shown at parishes that weekend. You can view the Stand Up Sunday message at www.diocesepb.org/news/annual/stand-up-sunday.html.
