In the summer of 2027, hundreds of thousands of young Catholics from across the globe will converge on Seoul, South Korea, for what is widely regarded as the largest gathering of the Catholic Church on earth: World Youth Day. This time, however, the moment carries a unique historical significance — presided over, for the first time ever, by an American pope, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.
Among those thousands will be the young people of the Diocese of Palm Beach — pilgrims on a journey that begins not in Seoul but here at home. With great joy and a spirit of hope, our diocese now sets its course toward World Youth Day 2027, preparing to offer our young people the opportunity to take part in one of the most vibrant and transformative experiences in the life of the Church.
The international gathering will take place from Aug. 3-8, 2027. That an American pope will preside over what is considered the largest Catholic event in the world is not only a historic first but also a powerful sign of the Church’s universality — one that speaks in a particular way to the faithful of our own nation.
World Youth Day is far more than a single event. It is a pilgrimage of faith — an extended journey that invites young people to deepen their relationship with Christ, encounter the universal Church and discover their place within it. While the celebrations in Seoul will be a moment of extraordinary grace, the richness of World Youth Day lies in the path that leads us there.
For this reason, our diocesan journey will begin immediately after Holy Week as parishes, schools and Catholic communities throughout the Diocese of Palm Beach enter a time of preparation marked by prayer, formation, service and fraternity. Through this shared journey, our young people will grow in faith and in the joy of walking together as members of the Body of Christ.
The theme — “Take courage; I have overcome the world” (Jn 16:33) — speaks directly to the hearts of today’s youth. In a world often marked by uncertainty and discouragement, Christ’s words offer enduring hope. They remind us that He has already conquered sin and death, and that in Him we find the strength to persevere and to build a future grounded in truth and love.
This message reflects a beautiful continuity in the life of the Church. It echoes the pastoral vision of Pope Francis, who constantly encouraged young people not to be afraid but to become protagonists of hope and renewal. At the same time, it finds renewed expression in the ministry of Pope Leo XIV, whose historic leadership at this World Youth Day will highlight the call to courageous faith rooted in Christ’s victory.
I warmly invite all the young people of our diocese — those in our parishes, schools and Catholic ministries — to receive this invitation with open hearts. World Youth Day is a gift for all, and each young person is called to participate according to his or her circumstances.
There will be two principal ways to take part in the final celebration. Many will travel with us to South Korea, joining pilgrims from around the world. For those unable to travel, a diocesan gathering will be organized locally, where participants will unite with the Holy Father through the live transmission of the final vigil and Mass and share in the grace of the Eucharist.
I encourage our young people to take the first step by reaching out to their pastors, principals and youth leaders. This journey calls for commitment, collaboration and enthusiasm. It offers a unique opportunity to grow in faith, discern one’s vocation and form lasting friendships.
I also invite our families, clergy, educators and parish communities to support and accompany our youth. For many, World Youth Day becomes a defining moment of grace — one that shapes their lives and deepens their relationship with Christ and His Church.
As we look ahead to 2027, let us entrust this journey to the Blessed Virgin Mary. May she guide our young people and lead them ever closer to her Son.

Camino a la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud 2027: «Tengan Valor: Yo he vencido al mundo» (Jn 16,33)
En el verano de 2027, cientos de miles de jóvenes católicos de todo el mundo se reunirán en Seúl, Korea del Sur, para lo que se considera ampliamente la mayor reunión de la Iglesia Católica en la tierra: la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud. Esta vez, sin embargo, el momento tiene un significado histórico único, ya que será presidido, por primera vez, por un papa estadounidense, Su Santidad el Papa León XIV.
Entre esos miles estarán los jóvenes de la Diócesis de Palm Beach — peregrinos en un camino que no comienza en Seúl, sino aquí en casa. Con gran alegría y un espíritu de esperanza, nuestra diócesis se encamina ahora hacia la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud 2027, preparándose para ofrecer a nuestros jóvenes la oportunidad de participar en una de las experiencias más vibrantes y transformadoras en la vida de la Iglesia.
La reunión internacional se llevará a cabo del 3 al 8 de agosto de 2027. Que un papa estadounidense presida lo que se considera el evento católico más grande del mundo no solo es un hecho histórico, sino también un poderoso signo de la universalidad de la Iglesia — uno que habla de manera particular a los fieles de nuestra propia nación.
La Jornada Mundial de la Juventud es mucho más que un solo evento. Es una peregrinación de fe — un viaje prolongado que invita a los jóvenes a profundizar su relación con Cristo, a encontrarse con la Iglesia universal y a descubrir su lugar dentro de ella. Si bien las celebraciones en Seúl serán un momento de gracia extraordinaria, la riqueza de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud reside en el camino que nos conduce hasta allí.
Por esta razón, nuestro camino diocesano comenzará inmediatamente después de la Semana Santa, cuando parroquias, escuelas y comunidades católicas de toda la Diócesis de Palm Beach entren en un tiempo de preparación marcado por la oración, la formación, el servicio y la fraternidad. A través de este viaje compartido, nuestros jóvenes crecerán en la fe y en la alegría de caminar juntos como miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo.
El tema — «Tengan Valor: Yo he vencido al mundo» (Jn 16,33) — habla directamente al corazón de los jóvenes de hoy. En un mundo frecuentemente marcado por la incertidumbre y el desánimo, las palabras de Cristo ofrecen una esperanza duradera. Nos recuerdan que Él ya ha vencido al pecado y a la muerte, y que en Él encontramos la fuerza para perseverar y construir un futuro fundamentado en la verdad y en el amor.
Este mensaje refleja una hermosa continuidad en la vida de la Iglesia. Hace eco de la visión pastoral del Papa Francisco, quien constantemente animaba a los jóvenes a no tener miedo, sino a convertirse en protagonistas de esperanza y renovación. Al mismo tiempo, encuentra una expresión renovada en el ministerio del Papa León XIV, cuyo liderazgo histórico en esta Jornada Mundial de la Juventud destacará el llamado a una fe valiente, arraigada en la victoria de Cristo.
Invito cordialmente a todos los jóvenes de nuestra diócesis — aquellos de nuestras parroquias, escuelas y ministerios católicos — a recibir esta invitación con corazones abiertos. La Jornada Mundial de la Juventud es un regalo para todos, y cada joven está llamado a participar según sus circunstancias.
Habrá dos formas principales de participar en la celebración final. Muchos viajarán con nosotros a Corea del Sur, uniéndose a peregrinos de todo el mundo. Para aquellos que no puedan viajar, se organizará una reunión diocesana local, donde los participantes se unirán al Santo Padre a través de la transmisión en vivo de la vigilia y la Misa final, y compartirán la gracia de la Eucaristía.
Animo a nuestros jóvenes a dar el primer paso acercándose a sus párrocos, directores de escuela y líderes juveniles. Este camino requiere compromiso, colaboración y entusiasmo. Ofrece una oportunidad única para crecer en la fe, discernir la propia vocación y formar amistades duraderas.
También invito a nuestras familias, al clero, a los educadores y a las comunidades parroquiales a apoyar y acompañar a nuestros jóvenes. Para muchos, la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud se convierte en un momento decisivo de gracia — uno que moldea sus vidas y profundiza su relación con Cristo y Su Iglesia.
Al mirar hacia el 2027, confiemos este camino a la Santísima Virgen María. Que ella guíe a nuestros jóvenes y los conduzca cada vez más cerca de su Hijo.
