Music Teacher - St Helen Catholic School

St. Helen Catholic School, located in Vero Beach, FL, is searching for an experienced Music Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. Candidates should hold a current FLDOE teaching certificate in Music or another Education certification and be able to add Music within the first six months.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To instill in children a love for Christ and His Church and an understanding and appreciation of Christian principles.
  • To give witness and example of Catholic values.
  • To interpret and model the school philosophy by contributing to the growth of a faith community.
  • To possess adequate knowledge of music theory, vocal and instrumental instruction, and integrate
    technology as an instructional tool.
  • To plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate music instruction for students in grades K–8.
  • To adequately prepare classes on a consistent basis with lesson plans aligned to Diocesan standards.
  • To create a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes student participation and fosters creativity.
  • To develop and lead musical performances, including but not limited to school Masses, a Christmas Program, and special events.
  • To collaborate with teachers and administration on liturgical music planning and student participation in Mass.
  • To differentiate instruction and support diverse learning styles and abilities, including use of student
    support plans.
  •  To provide consistent supervision and maintain classroom discipline.
  • To establish strong communication and positive rapport with faculty, parents, students, and administration.
  • To assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and report progress to parents at regular intervals.
  • To share responsibilities in support of the overall school program.
  • To participate in in-service programs and professional development opportunities.
  • To follow all school and Diocesan policies and procedures.
  • To contribute positively to the school’s mission, vision, and values.
  • To support and exemplify Catholic doctrine and morality in both professional and personal conduct.
  • To attend faculty meetings, school/parish events, and retreats as required by the Principal.
  • To be a positive public relations ambassador for the school.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Musical Skills

  • Proficiency in vocal performance and technique – able to model proper singing for various age groups.
  • Ability to teach and conduct choirs, including unison and 2–3 part harmony with age-appropriate repertoire.
  • Ability to play at least one accompanying instrument (preferably piano or guitar) to support student singing and performances.
  • Basic proficiency in classroom instruments (recorder, Orff instruments, percussion, etc.) for hands-on instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory and notation, adapted for K–8 instruction.

Instructional Experience

  • Experience teaching music to elementary and middle school students in a classroom or group setting.
  • Ability to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate music curriculum that includes general music, vocal instruction, instrument use, and performance opportunities.
  • Skill in preparing students for and directing seasonal concerts, choir performances, and liturgical music.
  • Familiarity with Diocesan and state music education standards.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a BA or BS degree
  • Working on or holding a valid professional teaching certificate in Music
  • Experience teaching Music to students in grades Kindergarten – 8th Grade
  • Proficient in technology / use of educational tools and programs
  • Excellent and professional interpersonal skills
  • Honors confidentiality and adheres to the school’s code of conduct
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • Ability to make sound educational and professional decisions
