School Bookkeeper - St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School

St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School located in Delray Beach, FL is searching for a full time School Bookkeeper.

Job Summary:

The Bookkeeper is primarily responsible for the finances of the school: providing bookkeeping services, maintaining a financial bookkeeping system including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and cash receipts; balancing ledgers, and reconciling bank statements. The bookkeeper also assists the Director of Finance and the Parish Manager with the HR operation and budget of both the school and church and provides basic support in the absence of the Director of Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Regular Accounts Payable:  Prepares and mails checks.
  • Payroll preparation using Diocesan Payroll program.
  • Maintain accounting ledger using double entry bookkeeping for receipts and disbursements.
  • Gather and calculate data; prepare bank reconciliations for the school and diocese as requested.
  • Maintains an accurate filing and record keeping and reporting system for all church & school financial matters.
  • Assists in the budget process in collaboration with the Finance Committee, pastor and parish manager.
  • Serves as point of contact for all financial audits in collaboration with the Director of Finance.
  • Attend Finance Council, staff meetings and diocesan meetings as requested.
  • Administers school salary and benefit policies as directed by the Pastor and Parish Manager.
  • Ensures that the diocesan compliance program is followed and maintained for all school and church employees.
  • Administers the parish’s credit card servicer program

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred.  However, some college or post high school vocational tech school credits in accounting with equivalent business experience acceptable.
  • 3 + years of accounting including accounts payable, payroll, general journal entries, general ledger analysis, and financial statement comparative reporting and budgeting.
  • Have a thorough understanding of accounting/record keeping and its component elements.
  • Knowledge of cash flow management.
  • Knowledge and ability in budgetary principles including diocesan regulations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate collection and deposit records.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the general teachings of the Catholic Church, and a basic familiarity with its structures, functions and institutions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet, as well as accounting applications and other custom church software.
  • Ability to use various office machines, such as copier, fax machine, postage meter, phone meter, phones, etc.
  • Excellent and professional telephone manner and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees, departments heads, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
  • Must continue to maintain a high level of independent thought and initiative to present new ideas as needed.
  • Must always maintain a professional manner and a suitable presence as a representative of the parish.
  • Good organizational, record-keeping and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to present oneself professionally.
  • Skilled in group dynamics.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and make responsible judgment calls.
  • Adhere to the Diocese of Palm Beach Code of Conduct with emphasis on confidentiality and able to exercise discretion and good business judgment
  • Reliable insured vehicle and ability to travel to locations within the Diocese of Palm Beach.

Physical Requirements:

  • There are no hazardous or disagreeable working conditions.
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds.
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 - 44 pounds.
  • Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing).
  • Frequent extended periods of sitting.
  • Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing.
  • Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation).
  • Occasional time spent working closely with others.
