The Florida Catholic's Long Sleeve Shirt Campaign

The Florida Catholic is sponsoring the 14th Annual Lenten Long-Sleeve Shirt Relief Drive, March 6th (Ash Wednesday) through April 18th (Holy Thursday) 2019.

This is the 14th year the Long-Sleeve Shirt Relief Drive, has helped the farmworkers organization provide for our brothers and sisters that toil in the fields to provide food for our tables. The year’s drive will continue to consist of a collection of long-sleeve shirts for the protection against harmful pesticides and monetary donations for farmworker’s needs. Added this year, is to spotlight and promote the programs that are empowering the farmworkers around the state.

One such program is happening in the Diocese of Venice, where women are making and selling bags to earn money for their families,  https://thefloridacatholic.org/2019/01/08/handbags-empower-immokalee-women/ for the full story. If you know of any co-op programs in your area, please let us know. We would like to shine the spotlight on them.

How can you help? You can do this by collecting long-sleeve shirts and spreading the word. Place announcements in your bulletin and ask a school or youth group to take this on as a project. All shirts collected will need to be delivered to the Farmworkers Association closest to you. See “How to Participate” at https://thefloridacatholic.org/lsr/ for further details.

Please let us know if your parish will be participating or if you know of any co-op programs near you. Any additional information or questions, contact Tammy Osborne at 407-373-0079 or toll free 1-888-275-9953; email tosborne@thefloridacatholic.org.

The Farmworkers Association across your diocese is very grateful for every donation, whether it be monetary or material. I know many of you support this effort throughout the year, so please know that the Florida Catholic is very appreciative of your partnership during the Lenten season.
