Holy Cross Parish in Indiantown in Martin County is proud to have 27 various ministries a vibrant church community. “We have something going on here every day,” said Juan Carolos Lasso, Director of Religious Education and Hispanic Ministry Coordinator, who also said that Masses are packed with a large population of the town. “We have more than 1,200 (attendees) at our Masses on the weekend,” he said.
The parish was established nearly 60 years ago as a mission. In 1969, Holy Cross became a full-fledged parish and today, Father Francisco Osorio is Pastor of the faith community that continues to grow at a rapid pace.
According to Lasso, Holy Cross is home to 850 families and weekend Masses are held at 5 p.m. in English on Saturdays and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish. Sunday Masses are held in English at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and in Spanish at 1 p.m.
At this time, the parish confirmation program is underway with 57 teens, who participated in a youth retreat this fall, and 46 youth in formation to receive Holy Communion. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program has 20 adults this year, who are all studying and in formation, as well. These adults will enter in full union with the Catholic Church at Easter, 2019.
The parish was excited for their annual Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration, which was held December 7-9, 2018. The celebration featured a procession through the streets, a big tent downtown for events and Masses, carnival with rides, games, food and dancing. The proceeds from the event benefitted the parish and its various ministries.
